Alberto J. Perez
Coach Alberto J. Perez has been playing soccer since the age of 4. Having been born in Brownsville, Texas, and raised in Brownsville and Matamoros, Mexico, he played his club career on both sides of the border. Coach Perez participated in other sports as well, such as baseball, tennis, and track and field. His first love, however, was fútbol. In high school, he was the starting goalkeeper for 2 years, and in his senior year earned 2nd team All-District GK, with the current Texas 5A State Soccer Champion Brownsville Porter Cowboys. During college, Perez juggled school and soccer, and his hard work paid off when he signed to be part of the Mexican 3rd division Delfines de Matamoros FC. One year later, he was called up as goalkeeper to the 2nd Division Huracanes de Matamoros FC also of the Mexican League, as part of their reserves. Coach Perez has also refereed for almost 20 years in the US and abroad as is currently a US Soccer referee and has worked at the youth, adult amateur, collegiate, and professional levels. He currently officiates in the Boys Classic League in Dallas. Alberto is married to his wife Belem and has three children, Azucena, Alexandro, and Angelo. Coach Perez is currently the Head Men’s Junior Varsity Soccer, Assistant Men’s Varsity, Former Assistant Women’s Varsity as well as Goalkeepers Coach at South Garland HS.
